Terms of use

Draft under legal review — not the final text.

By using Maktabty you agree to these terms. The service provider: Maktabty.

The service

Maktabty is a service for managing libraries: books, copies and their places, lending, and the reading log. A library is created by our team on request, and its owner invites its members and sets what they may do.

The account

  • Each person has one account under their email address, and is responsible for keeping the password secret.
  • A library's owner is responsible for the people they invite to it and for the data entered in it.

Subscription and payment

  • The subscription is for the library, according to the plan shown on the plans page, and payment is arranged by email.
  • When the subscription ends the library is suspended and its data is not deleted, and it works again on renewal.
  • Prices may change, and a change does not apply to a period already paid for.

Your data

A library's data belongs to its owners. We keep it only to run the service, as described in the privacy policy.

With one exception the owner can switch off: books' descriptive details (title, author, publisher, year, pages and ISBN) go into the shared catalog everyone searches, with nothing pointing to your library.

Members' ratings, reviews and short quotes appear on the books' public pages with their first name, unless the member hides them in the app. Whoever writes them is responsible for them, and they must not break the acceptable-use rules below.

Acceptable use

The service may not be used for anything unlawful, nor to try to reach other people's libraries or to disrupt the service.

Stopping and ending

You may stop using the service and ask for your library to be deleted at any time. We may suspend a library that breaks these terms after notifying its owner.

Limits of liability

We do our best to keep the service available and your data safe, but it is provided “as is”, with no guarantee that it is free of interruption or error.

Changes to the terms

We may change these terms, and we publish the new text on this page.
